Prognostic value of biochemical markers during necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns
Azerbaijan Journal of Perinatology and Pediatrics

Abstract

During the study we examined the prognostic value of MMP-2, MMP-9, MMP-17, catelicide, transferrin and fecal calprotectin, which are biochemical markers in necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns. To achieve this goal, 110 sick newborns were observed. The newborns were divided into the following groups: Group I-49 patients with first stage of NEC, group II-48 patients with second stage of NEC, group III-13 patients with third stage of NEC. The control group consisted of 30 healthy newborns. The study used variational, discriminant, dispersive, and ROC- analysis. During the predictive evaluation in the study of matrix-metalloproteinase, which are molecular-biochemical markers, the total diagnostic weight of the test was for MMP-17 87.5%, for MMP – 9 85%, and for MMP-285%, which indicated the high predictive value of these markers.
