Modern view of acute respiratory infections in children
Azerbaijan Journal of Perinatology and Pediatrics

Abstract

Acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) are the most common group of diseases characterized by damage to the respiratory tract. It is estimated that in the first two years of life, each child suffers 8-9 episodes of ARVI annually. Acute lower respiratory tract infections (ARI) are defined as infections that damage the airways from the larynx to the larynx and include acute laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, and bronchiolitis, as well as lung infections such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and empyema. Almost all types of ARVI have similar clinical signs due to the structure and activity of viruses in the early stages of the disease. There are various diagnostic methods for ARVI to confirm the clinical diagnosis, differentiation of respiratory viruses and epidemiological goals. The presence of multiple mixed infections and the relationship of bacterial infections suggest that research is needed for targeted therapy and prevention of ARVI.
