The aim of the study was to study the effectiveness of probiotics in the treatment of children with atopic dermatitis (AD).
Material and methods. 49 children with atopic dermatitis at the age of 1-8 years were examined. Children were divided into 2 groups. Group I (n = 32) included patients who underwent AD therapy according to the standard regimen (diet, antihistamines, in severe cases glucocorticoids, local therapy, etc.) Children from group II (n = 17) received the above therapy probiotics were added within 14 days. At the beginning of treatment, after 1 and 3 months, the effectiveness of therapy was evaluated using the SCORAD index. Statistical data processing was performed using nonparametric methods using the Statistica program ("Statsoft, Inc.")
Results. The study showed that initially the SCORAD index in both groups was quite high and amounted to 64.3 ± 3.1 and 57.2 ± 4.4 points, respectively. After 1 month after treatment, in the I group, the index significantly decreased by 6.4%, p> 0.05, and in the II group - significantly by 24.9%, p <0.05. After 3 months, there was also a difference between the groups: in group I, the SCORAD index decreased only by 18.6% (p <0.05), and in group II it was significantly reduced by 44.8%, p <0.01. The study indicates the effectiveness of the use of probiotics in the treatment of AD.
