The surgical treatment of NEC in newborns is a complex and evolving field. While laparotomy remains the standard approach, emerging technologies and treatment modalities offer the potential for improved outcomes. Further research is needed to refine surgical strategies, enhance postoperative care, and mitigate the long-term consequences of NEC and its surgical management. A multidisciplinary approach involving neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, and other specialists is crucial for optimizing the care of infants affected by this challenging condition.
