Screening, diagnosis and monitoring of retinopathy of prematurity

Abstract

ROP is a preventable cause of childhood blindness. The disease can be successfully treated if detected on time. But there is a narrow period (7-8 weeks). Till 2015, was not any scientific and clinical center for detection and treatment of the early stages of this desease. Since 2015, was organized eye care center for preterm babies in the National Ophthalmology Center named after acad Zarifa Aliyeva and are carried out screening, monitoring, diagnosis and treatment of ROP in the early stages . This study is carried out is the first step in Perinatal Center and Institute of Pediatrics named after Kubra Farajova, is the second step in the National Ophthalmology Center named after acad. Zarifa Aliyeva. 72 patients with ROP was detected around of 624 premature babies (spontaneous regression occurred in 32 children, 38 children were applied to the treatment, 20 patients have lost on follow up). Community work ophthalmologists and neonatologists, development of science will help as well as the counteraction of the ROP.
