Развитие человеческого эмбриона начинается, когда яйцеклетка оплодотворяется спер-матозоидом с образованием одноклеточной зиготы. Это клеточное деление, клеточная миграция, дифференцировка, рост и клеточная реорганизация приводят к многоклеточ-ному эмбриону с высокоспециализированным набором клеток. Процесс эмбриогенеза длится примерно от оплодотворения до 8 недель (около 56 дней). Плодный период начи-нается на 57-й день и продолжается до рождения.
