Human embryo development begins when an egg is fertilized by a sperm to form a single-celled zygote. This cell division, cell migration, differentiation, growth, and cell reorganization results in a multicellular embryo with a highly specialized collection of cells. The process of embryogenesis lasts approximately from fertilization to 8 weeks (about 56 days). The fetal period begins on the 57th day and continues until birth. In this review article, the main aspects of embryo and fetal development from fertilization to birth are analyzed based on the literature material of the last 10 years.
